What is therapy like?

Therapy is a collaborative and individualized process designed to help you better understand yourself, your emotions, your relationships, and the patterns that may be keeping you feeling stuck or overwhelmed.

Sessions are conversational, supportive, and tailored to your unique needs and goals. Some sessions may focus on current stressors or relationships, while others may involve exploring deeper emotional patterns, past experiences, attachment wounds, communication struggles, or nervous system responses.

My approach is warm, relational, trauma-informed, and insight-oriented. I strive to create a space where you feel emotionally safe, understood, and able to show up authentically without judgment.

Therapy is not about “fixing” you. It is about helping you better understand yourself, develop healthier patterns, strengthen emotional awareness, improve relationships, and create more meaningful and sustainable change over time.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy may be helpful if you are feeling emotionally overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, disconnected from yourself or others, struggling within relationships, carrying unresolved past experiences, or simply feeling exhausted from trying to manage everything on your own.

Many people seek therapy not because something is “wrong” with them, but because they want:

  • healthier relationships
  • better emotional regulation
  • deeper self-understanding
  • support during stressful or painful life experiences
  • relief from anxiety, burnout, or emotional exhaustion
  • help navigating communication or relationship struggles
  • a space where they can process openly without judgment

You do not need to be in crisis for therapy to be beneficial.

Therapy can help increase insight, emotional awareness, self-trust, and the ability to create healthier patterns and more meaningful connections over time.

The best way to determine whether therapy feels like a good fit is often through an initial consultation or first session where we can discuss your goals, concerns, and what you are hoping to gain from the process.

Do you offer virtual therapy?

Yes. All therapy sessions are conducted virtually through a secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform for adults and couples located throughout Missouri and Kansas.

Virtual therapy allows clients to attend sessions from the comfort and privacy of their own space while maintaining flexibility and accessibility. Many clients find telehealth to be more convenient, comfortable, and easier to consistently incorporate into their schedules.

As long as you are physically located in Missouri or Kansas at the time of the session, services can typically be provided virtually. All you need is:

  • a private space
  • a stable internet connection
  • a phone, tablet, or computer with audio and video capabilities

Telehealth can be highly effective for concerns including anxiety, burnout, trauma, relationship struggles, emotional overwhelm, communication difficulties, attachment wounds, and personal growth work.

What states do you provide therapy in?

I currently provide virtual therapy services to adults and couples located in Missouri and Kansas.

Clients must be physically located in either Missouri or Kansas at the time of each session, regardless of where they permanently reside.

All sessions are conducted through a secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform, allowing clients throughout both states to access therapy from the comfort and privacy of their own space.

How long are sessions?

Session length depends on the type of service and the needs of the client or relationship.

Current session options include:

  • 45-minute individual therapy sessions
  • 60-minute individual therapy sessions
  • 60-minute couples therapy sessions
  • 75-minute couples therapy sessions

Longer sessions are often recommended for couples therapy to allow adequate time to explore communication patterns, emotional dynamics, and relational concerns without feeling rushed.

Session frequency and length can be discussed collaboratively based on your goals, preferences, and clinical needs.

How often will I need to attend therapy?

Therapy frequency is individualized and depends on your goals, current stressors, emotional needs, and the type of support you are seeking.

Many clients begin with weekly sessions to build consistency, increase insight, and establish momentum in the therapeutic process. As progress is made, some clients may choose to transition to biweekly or less frequent sessions based on their needs and goals.

Couples therapy may also vary in frequency depending on the level of distress, communication concerns, or relational work being addressed.

Therapy is collaborative, and session frequency can be adjusted over time to best support meaningful and sustainable progress.

What issues do you help with?

I work with adults and couples experiencing a wide range of emotional, relational, and life concerns, with a strong focus on helping clients better understand the patterns beneath the surface that may be contributing to distress, overwhelm, or disconnection.

Some of the areas I commonly help clients navigate include:

  • anxiety and chronic stress
  • emotional overwhelm and burnout
  • trauma and attachment wounds
  • relationship and communication struggles
  • emotional disconnection within relationships
  • shame and self-worth concerns
  • people-pleasing and difficulty with boundaries
  • perfectionism and overfunctioning
  • identity exploration and life transitions
  • nervous system dysregulation
  • conflict and recurring relational patterns
  • resentment, emotional exhaustion, and caregiver fatigue
  • intimacy and trust concerns
  • family of origin wounds
  • grief and loss
  • LGBTQIA+ affirming support
  • self-esteem and self-trust
  • difficulty expressing emotions or needs
  • overthinking and emotional reactivity

Therapy is individualized, collaborative, and tailored to your specific experiences, goals, relationships, and emotional needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Do you work with couples as well as individuals?

Yes. I provide therapy for both individuals and couples throughout Missouri and Kansas via secure telehealth services.

Individual therapy focuses on helping clients better understand themselves, regulate emotions, process painful experiences, improve relationships, strengthen boundaries, and work through patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, burnout, shame, overwhelm, or emotional disconnection.

Couples therapy focuses on helping partners better understand communication patterns, emotional dynamics, attachment wounds, conflict cycles, and the barriers that may be impacting emotional safety, trust, intimacy, or connection within the relationship.

My work with both individuals and couples is trauma-informed, relationally focused, emotionally attuned, and tailored to the unique needs and goals of each client or relationship.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Therapy is confidential, and protecting your privacy is an important part of the therapeutic process.

Information shared during sessions, as well as records related to treatment, are kept confidential in accordance with professional ethics and legal requirements.

There are, however, a few exceptions to confidentiality required by law. These may include situations involving:

  • risk of serious harm to yourself or others
  • suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult
  • court orders or other legal requirements

Additional information regarding confidentiality, privacy practices, and limits of confidentiality is reviewed in the informed consent documentation provided prior to beginning services.

Creating a safe, respectful, and trustworthy therapeutic environment is a central part of the work we do together.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide at least 24 hours notice whenever possible.

Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to the full session fee unless otherwise discussed or in the case of certain emergencies.

Because appointment times are reserved specifically for each client, missed appointments and late cancellations limit the ability to offer that time to others who may be waiting for services.

The following no-show policy applies to missed appointments without communication:

  • First no-show: billed at 50% of the scheduled session fee
  • Second consecutive no-show: billed at the full session fee
  • Third consecutive no-show: billed at the full session fee and additional appointments may not be scheduled moving forward

If unexpected situations arise, please communicate as soon as possible. Emergencies and unforeseen circumstances are handled with consideration, professionalism, and clinical discretion whenever possible.
